Tavoy Morgan scored the game-tying goal late in the fourth quarter and the overtime golden goal 22 seconds into bonus time to give the San Diego Sockers a 11-10 overtime victory over the winless Chihuahua Savage.
With Morgan’s second-quarter goal, he earned his second hat trick in three games with San Diego.
Forward captain Kraig Chiles and midfielder Felipe Gonzalez each finished with two goals, and Chiles also earned an assist on Morgan’s second goal.
The Sockers got off to a hot start, holding a 4-1 lead after the first quarter. After a pair of goals exchanged between the two clubs in the second quarter, San Diego had a 6-3 lead into halftime.
Chihuahua attacked on offense in the third quarter, adding five goals to San Diego’s two to tie the game, and with an even fourth quarter, the game was forced into overtime.
Having possession for the entirety of the 22-second overtime period, the Sockers netted the game-winning score on a pass from midfielder Hiram Ruiz to Morgan.
With a weekend sweep in Chihuahua, the Sockers have won three straight since their overtime loss to the Ontario Fury. They remain the only team in the Major Arena Soccer League without a regulation loss.
The Sockers will wrap up their four-game road trip with the Ontario Fury on Wednesday, Jan. 26. San Diego will look to add on to their 2-1 head-to-head record with the Fury with kick-off at 7:05 p.m. at Toyota Arena.
