San Diego’s annual men’s basketball tournament announced it will move from UC San Diego’s LionTree Arena to the University of San Diego’s Jenny Craig Pavilion after hosting successful tournaments in each of its first two years.
Last year’s Rady Children’s Invitational’s field of four teams each went to the NCAA Tournament and sold out two months prior to the first game’s tip off at LionTree Arena, which holds a little more than 4,000 fans.
"Due to overwhelming demand—last year’s event sold out two months in advance—we needed a larger venue to accommodate our growing fan base," Sports San Diego CEO Mark Neville said. "We’re incredibly grateful to UC San Diego for being an amazing partner in our first two years of the Rady Children’s Invitational. Our goal has always been to bring top college basketball teams to our event, and this year’s lineup continues that tradition.”
Sports San Diego puts together the Rady Children’s Invitational each November in addition to college football’s Holiday Bowl in December.
The 2025 edition will bring the Florida Gators, Providence Friars, Wisconsin Badgers and a yet-to-be-determined fourth team to the Jenny Craig Pavilion from Nov. 27-28 on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. The Kansas Jayhawks dropped out of the tournament after it joined the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas. The matchups and tip times will be announced at a later date.
Florida is currently in the Final Four and Wisconsin was the No. 3 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
The Jenny Craig Pavilion, on the campus of the University of San Diego, has 5,100 seats. It is the home of the university’s men’s basketball, women’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams.
"We’re excited to host the Rady Children’s Invitational at the University of San Diego and welcome some of the top college basketball programs in the country to our beautiful campus," USD Athletic Director Kimya Massey said. "This event is a great opportunity to showcase the Jenny Craig Pavilion as a premier venue and highlight everything that makes USD such a special place. We appreciate our partnership with Sports San Diego and their commitment to bringing high-level basketball to this city."
Tickets go on sale for the event on Wednesday, April 2 on the Rady Children’s Invitational website with $5 from each ticket sold going to Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego.
