SNAPDRAGON STADIUM – Under the bright lights of San Diego’s Snapdragon Stadium, the New Zealand All Blacks were a force to be reckoned with as they ran over Fiji Rugby for seven tries in a 47-5 New Zealand victory.
Despite sporting a younger squad, the All Blacks put on a show for the largely pro-New Zealand crowd.
All Blacks scrum-half Cortez Ratima and outside center Billy Proctor scored their first career test tries in the opening half. Proctor did so in his All Blacks debut. George Bell also came off the bench to score his first try in the 78th minute in the second half.
Left wing Caleb Clarke scored the game’s opening try in the 10th minute. Ratima and Proctor scored in the 13th and 26th minutes, respectively. Number 8 Ardie Savea scored in the 35th minute to give the All Blacks a 26-5 lead at the half.
Fiji’s lone try came in the 18th minute when they shocked the All Blacks backs on a trick play.
Fiji made it to the two-meter line on multiple occasions in both the first and second halves but could not manage another score.
New Zealand right wing Sevu Reece and reserves Ethan De Grootadded and Bell added on for the All Blacks in the second half.
Fly-half Damian McKenzie made his first two conversion attempts and six of seven total. His one miss was from long distance and the sideline.
