The San Diego Gulls took down the Bakersfield Condors, 4-1, in a divisional match between the fifth- and sixth-place teams, with now a 11-point difference between the pair of teams.
The Gulls scored goals in each period, scoring two goals in the first period while scoring one each in the final two frames.
Alex Broadhurst and Chris Wideman each turned in multi-point performances against Bakersfield.
Broadhurst scored and assisted a goal in the first period, his 18th and 19th points of the season. The left-handed center extended his point streak to four games and has five points (two goals and three assists) during that stretch.
Wideman assisted two goals in San Diego’s three-goal victory. The all-star defenseman assisted his first two goals in six games against Bakersfield this season.
As a team, the Gulls struggled again on the power play as they moved below the Ontario Reign in power play percentage (PP%) for worst in the division, and 26th in the league. They went 0-for-3 and have not earned a power play goal since Feb. 15, going 0-for-11 in the past three games.
The Condors have not won a game since Feb. 5 against the first-place Tucson Roadrunners, and have gone 1-7 in the month of February, their worst mark of the season so far. This month, Bakersfield averages 4.75 goals allowed per game compared to 2.38 goals scored per game.
The Gulls take the season series lead for the first time this season at 4-3. San Diego is now 3-1 at Mechanics Bank Arena this season.
The Gulls return home Saturday, Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. PT. at Pechanga Arena San Diego against the San Jose Barracuda.
