San Diego grabbed a win over the San Jose Barracuda, 4-2, at the SAP Center. Alex Dostie sealed the game in the third period, scoring on an empty-net goal with 46 seconds left in regulation.
After the Barracuda tied the game, Simon Benoit helped restore the Gulls’ lead, scoring his third goal of the year in the second period.
Gulls captain Sam Carrick picked up the assist on the goal, tying both Chris Wideman and Daniel Sprong for the team-lead in assists.
San Jose’s Joachim Blichfield cut the Gulls lead to one, scoring his 14th goal of the season, with 5:47 left in the 3rd period.
San Diego recorded a season-high 19 shots on goal in the first period. Chris Mueller scored the game’s first goal at 5:49 of the opening frame of the game.
With the Gulls win, Head Coach Kevin Dineen passed Dallas Eakins for most wins as a head coach of an Anaheim Ducks primary affiliate.
The Gulls will return home Friday night against the first-place Tucson Roadrunners. The puck drop is at 7 p.m. PT from the Pechanga Arena.
