A week after falling to the Grand Rapids Griffins in the first game in San Diego between the two teams since 2015, the Gulls played the Griffins in a rematch at Pechanga Arena, but fell once again in shootouts by score of 3-2.
The Griffins struck first with 45 seconds remaining in the first period when Eric Tangradi shot his third score of the season for Grand Rapids.
The Gulls tied the game back up when Alex Broadhurst scores his fourth goal of the season while on a penalty kill for another short-handed goal. The Gulls lead the league in such goals.
However, seven minutes later the Griffins took back their lead on a power play.
Going into the third period, the Gulls were in dire need of a game-tying goal when Daniel Sprong produced for San Diego, tying the game at two apiece. Sprong scored his seventh goal of the year.
The game went into overtime, then to shootouts where the Gulls could not get the puck into the net as they fell to the Griffins in back-to-back weeks.
The Gulls return to the ice on Friday, Dec. 20 against the San Jose Barracuda from Pechanga Arena San Diego for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
