Friday night, the San Diego Gulls took down the Colorado Eagles in Loveland to get back to .500 with a (10-10-1-0) record.
The Gulls struck first a minute into the second period with Corey Tropp’s first goal of the season, becoming the last forward to score their first of the season, with a minimum of 10 games played.
Approximately halfway through the second period, the Eagles tied the game with Kevin Boyle in the net. 29-year-old center Jayson Megna, the brother of former Gull Jaycob Megna, scored his seventh goal in 15 games.
The Gulls and Eagles each went scoreless in the third and overtime periods without a penalty, causing the game to go into shootouts.
Following a scoreless first round, San Diego’s centers Alex Broadhurst and Justin Kloos scored in the second and third rounds, respectively. With Colorado’s failed shot in the second round, the Gulls clinched the win and two points in the standings.
With the first win in shootouts this season, San Diego boost to fifth in the AHL Pacific Division, with two points behind the Colorado Eagles.
The San Diego Gulls and Colorado Eagles rematch Saturday night from Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado. Puck drop will be at 6:05 p.m. PT on AHL TV.
