After dropping their past three games, the San Diego Gulls looked for a win against the first-place Tucson Roadrunners. And they did so with a 6-2 win.
The Gulls struck first with Blake Pietila’s fourth goal of the season, four minutes into the game.
The Roadrunners tied it halfway through the first, but the Gulls added two more before the first intermission with scores from center Sam Carrick and Daniel Sprong.
In the second period, Alex Dostie added on to make it a three-goal game before Tucson brought the match within two again on the power play.
In the third period, the Gulls fully took over with Sam Carrick’s 10th goal of the season and Chase De Leo’s fourth. The defense held the Roadrunners to zero shots on goal in the final 20 minutes, a feat that does not happen very often.
The Gulls will look to start a new streak with a home game against the Colorado Eagles on Saturday, Dec. 7 from Pechanga Arena San Diego before their first non-division opponent four days later.
