With a chance to get above .500 for the first time this season, the Gulls scored just one goal in their first home loss since the calendar flipped to November.
The Gulls struck first Saturday night with left wing Jack Kopacka’s unassisted goal with 2:21 left in the first period. Kopacka shot his third goal and seventh point of the season.
In the second period, however, it was all Heat as they shot up four goals into the net of starting goaltender Anthony Stolarz.
San Diego had their opportunities in the middle period, including 1:30 of 5-on-3, but they were unsuccessful in getting back on the board. They were down 4-1 after 40 minutes.
For the start of the third period, backup goaltender Kevin Boyle was the one coming out to protect the net. Boyle went perfect with four saves in 18 minutes.
After no score in a quick final 20 minutes, San Diego fell to Stockton, 4-1, and have fallen back below .500 (7-8).
After their eighth loss of the season, the Gulls will get ready for tough competition in the San Jose Barracuda Wednesday night at 7 p.m. PT from Pechanga Arena San Diego.
