With another loss to the Ontario Reign Saturday, the San Diego Gulls upped the franchise-worst losing streak to begin a season to six games. The previous mark was two games in the 2018-19 season.

The Gulls went with San Diego newbie Anthony Stolarz as the goaltender one night after fan-favorite Kevin Boyle gave up six goals. The Reign quickly sent one into the net, less than a minute into the game and the Reign went up 1-0.

However, Gulls’ Chris Wideman tied it up in the middle of the period for his second goal in two nights. Justin Kloos and Andrew Poturalski each made their first assists of the season.

The Reign struck again in the second, but San Diego’s Antoine Morand tied the match back up with his first goal of the year. Andrew Poturalski scored his second assist and Sam Carrick scored his team-leading fourth assist.

The third and last period was all Reign for the second straight night as they outshot the Gulls 12-5 and scored the game-winning goal with under five minutes of regulation left.

The Gulls struggled with penalties as they had all franchise history with 15 penalty minutes and they went 1-for-4 on the power play.

The Gulls will get set to play next Friday as they begin a new two-game homestand against the Colorado Eagles. Both Friday and Saturday’s game will begin at 7 p.m. at Pechanga Arena San Diego.
