After falling in an overtime affair Feb. 17, the San Diego Gulls (23-17-5-2) return to home ice in a rematch against the Stockton Heat (28-13-3-3).

In seven meetings this season, the Heat lead fives games to two after taking the last one in overtime, ending a 2-0 season series stretch for the Gulls.

The Gulls have earned points in nine of the past 10 games (6-1-3) and look to continue their three-game stretch where they have earned points against the Heat.

One key for the Gulls to win is killing the penalty. The Heat are the best team in the Pacific Division while on the power play, but the Gulls are one of the best teams in the league while on the penalty kill. The Gulls successfully killed eight of nine penalties (88.9%) against Stockton in the past three games, while killing eight of 13 penalties (61.5%) in the first four games between the two teams.

In five games against Stockton, right wing Kiefer Sherwood has three goals and three assists this season. In two of those five matches, Sherwood recorded multi-point performances.

San Diego captain Sam Carrick went pointless during the three-game road trip, tying the season-longest stretch for the 26-year-old center. Carrick has not gone four consecutive games without a point since Nov. 10-23, 2018.

The Heat average nearly four goals per game against division opponents on the road, the best mark in the American Hockey League (AHL) this season, and their 15-6-0-2 record on the road is the second best in the league.

Stockton’s top scorer, center Alan Quine, has 45 points in 36 games this season. He has been tough on the San Diego defense, scoring five assists in six games.

Right wing Matthew Phillips has seven points in six games played against the Gulls this season, including a four-point performance Nov. 11 in Stockton.

The Gulls and Heat begin at 7 p.m. PT. at Pechanga Arena San Diego. The game will be broadcasted on AHL TV and on the Gulls Audio Network.
