The San Diego Gulls (5-7-0-0) and Ontario Reign (8-4-2-0) will begin a two-game weekend series Friday night in Ontario before going to San Diego for a Saturday Rivalry Night.
The Reign have taken the first two in the season series with 6-2 and 3-2 victories on Oct. 25 and 26. The Gulls won the series last season 8-4 and an eight-game lead in the overall series dating back to their opening 2015-16 season.
The Gulls are amidst a six games in nine days stretch with another back-to-back set of games. San Diego has gone 3-1 so far, with their latest game being a record setting game Wednesday against San Jose Barracuda.
The Gulls have outscored opponents during that stretch, 20-13, with one game against the Bakersfield Condors and Stockton Heat, as well as San Jose for two. Goaltender Anthony Stolarz won each game he has played in, while Kevin Boyle had one loss in a 6-3 affair with Stockton on Monday.
The Gulls are 8-for-49 (16.3%) on the power play and opponents are just 8-for-48 (16.7%) against their defense. Meanwhile, the Reign have only gone 7-for-56 (12.5%) on power plays so far this season and opponents are going 13-for-68 (19.1%) on the power play.
The Ontario Reign have had much better success this season compared to previous years. They are 6-3-1 in their last 10, but are only 2-2-2 at home.
The Gulls and Reign will play at Toyota Arena in Ontario with puck drop at 7 p.m. (PST). the game will be streamed on AHL TV and broadcasted on the Gulls Radio Network.
