Fans may feel like time has stopped, but the clock keeps ticking as COVID-19 and the hockey season has been put on pause. In the past week, the Anaheim Ducks organization has started looking towards the future.
Thus far, four players have inked new contracts going into the 2020-21 season.
As announced by the Anaheim Ducks on May 6, Christian Djoos signed a one-year deal with the organization. Djoos, acquired at the trade deadline from the Washington Capitals on February 24th, was a highly anticipated signing for many fans.
Full details of the deal have not been confirmed, but speculation has estimated a cap hit of approximately $1M.
Fellow defenseman Jani Hakanpaa, who split time between Anaheim and San Diego in the 2019-20 season, has also signed a contract with the Anaheim Ducks through the 2020-21 year. He has received a Standard Player Contract with an estimated worth of $750,000.
Then on May 10, the organization announced defenseman Brendan Guhle and center Sam Carrick were extended as well.
Guhle signed a two-year deal with Anaheim with an AAV of $800,000, keeping him with the team until the end of the 2021-22 season.
Carrick, currently the captain of Anaheim’s AHL affiliate, the San Diego Gulls, signed to a one-year Standard Player Contract estimated at $700,000.
