The San Diego Gulls will open the season north of the border when they face the Toronto Marlies on Saturday, Oct. 12.
They’ll then open the home schedule at Pechanga Arena on Friday, Oct. 18 against two-time defending Western Conference champion Coachella Valley Firebirds.
The American Hockey League announced the home openers of all 32 teams for the 2024-25 season ahead of Thursday’s schedule release.
The Gulls appeared two more times in other teams’ home openers. They’ll play the Bakersfield Condors on Saturday, Oct. 19 and the Abbotsford Canucks on Friday, Oct. 25.
Last season, the Gulls finished with a 26-35-10-1 (63 pts) record and ninth place in the Pacific Division.
Their season-opening opponent, the Marlies, finished last season with a 34-26-10-2 (80 pts) to finish fifth in the North Division. They lost two games to one in the first round of the Calder Cup playoffs.
The Firebirds went to the Calder Cup Finals for the second straight year and lost to the same Hershey Bears team four games to two.
The Canucks (40-25-5-2, 87 pts) and Condors (39-27-4-2, 84 pts) finished fifth and sixth in the Pacific Division. Both teams lost to the Ontario Reign in the first round (Bakersfield) and divisional semifinal (Abbotsford).
The full schedule will be released on Thursday, July 11.
