San Diego Legion announced via a Statement on Thursday that they will stay inside the organization and Scott Murray and Zack Test will assume the duties as Co-Head Coaches.
This announcement came following the announcement on Wednesday that Rob Hoadley had stepped down as the head coach following three seasons leading the team.
Legion Chairman Darren Gardner stated: “Both have shown they could easily do the head-coach job in their own right, so Ryan and I feel very fortunate to have them working in combination. We are excited about our next chapter and this is the first step.”
“As we look forward to the 2021 season, our organization is very focused on winning an MLR championship for our fans and the broader community in San Diego. Darren and I are confident Zack and Scott will push our team to the next level, on and off the field” said Legion President & CEO Ryan Patterson.
Zack Test has been the Legion’s Backs Coach for all three seasons of the team (2018-2020) and Scott Murray has been the Forwards Coach for the past two seasons (2019-2020).
On assuming the Head Coach position, Murray said: “In a short period of time, SD Legion has built a world-class organization and a fantastic culture. I am very excited to help further that and continue the team delivering success on the field.”
And Test added: “We have a fantastic rugby organization at SD Legion. I am looking forward to continuing to develop our team and winning style of rugby that fans and the San Diego community can be proud of.”
Legion star forward Psalm Wooching had this to say: “Zack & Scott are perfect for the job, I couldn’t have thought of any one better suiting then them. I’m excited for what the years are to come with those two coaching myself and the rest at Legion!”
San Diego Legion will look to carry forward their 2020 success into the 2021 season of Major League Rugby.
