The San Diego Legion’s 8-8 season was not enough to qualify them for the Western Conference playoffs after the Seattle Seawolves passed them for the fourth and final playoff spot with a 42-17 win over the Miami Sharks on Sunday.
San Diego is the lone team in the Western Conference to not qualify for the playoffs. They were the only team in the West without a winning record.
It’s just the second time they missed the playoffs and the first time since 2021 when the Legion played home matches in four different cities.
The Legion passed the Seawolves with their 50-5 win over Old Glory DC on Saturday night that put them four competition points ahead of their longtime Western Conference rival. With the Legion having the point differential tiebreaker, the Seawolves needed a bonus point victory in order to advance.
Seattle never trailed but only led 14-10 at halftime. They quickly scored the bonus point-clinching try in the 50th minute despite playing down two players due to a yellow card and a red card. Miami scored just one try in the second half that Seattle controlled.
